Exploring mathematics in the media

In this presentation, I share media stories that include topics such as climate change, political districting, quadratic voting and pay day loans to exemplify how mathematics can taught through such stories and also how mathematics can be used as a critical lens toward such stories. In either case, explicit ties to our BC curriculum will be a focus. The purpose of the presentation is to focus on how we can develop mathematical competency and content in assessing the popular narratives we hear and read in the news.
