Playing with Ideas in Mathematics

What are the big concepts and ideas in early mathematics? How might young children engage in playing with these ideas to deepen their understanding? In this session, Janice will share her current favourite materials, picture books and instructional ideas for developing mathematical understanding through play, investigation and projects.

    Janice is a district teacher consultant in the Richmond School District learning with K-12 teachers and students. She is also an Adjunct Professor at UBC where she learns with elementary teacher candidates. Janice is involved with the BC Numeracy Network, NCTM, NCSM and facilitates the BC Reggio-Inspired Mathematics Project.
