Teaching on the Edge. Balancing between creating a thinking environment and covering all concepts.

Precalculus and Calculus courses are well known for having too little time, too much to do, and a lot of challenging material.  As teachers, we often find ourselves trying to cover the curriculum by explaining everything.  However, we know students need time to think for themselves, ask questions, explore ideas, and solidify their understanding.  This workshop will look at assignments related to the curriculum that allow for student exploration within courses that are already jam packed.

    I have been teaching for approximately 25 years and worked in both Burnaby and Surrey.  I have taught math at the grade 8 to Calculus level, including courses such as Numeracy 8, Math 9 Transitions, Applications of Math 11 and 12, Workplace 11, Survey Math 12 and Foundations of Math 12.  I have been a member of the BCAMT Executive for many years and through this experience, have been very fortunate to learn from so many people involved with education from across the province and country.
